I have been going through some internet marketing forums lately and read some discussions about internet gurus using the scarcity marketing technique to get lots of buyers for their products. Some of them are Rich Scefren, Eben Pagan and most recently, Frank Kern.

What is “Scarcity” you might ask?

Scarcity in my opinion is an emotion that exist in a human being. It is an emotion that is related closely to the feeling of “losing something of value”. All human beings hate the feeling of losing something of value. This feeling can be felt also when one loses a loved one. It is a hurting feeling that makes you want to get rid of it. So to the marketers advantage, getting rid of that pinching feeling is through paying out some cash to get the product that have gotten them into a “Heightened state“.

This feeling becomes more intense when you perceived the thing that you have lost to be of a high value.

Marketers know this. They first need to so call “hype up” their products with compelling copywrite that evoke feelings and perception on that particular product that they are selling as being of a high value.

Hence, scarcity as a marketing technique is only able to work as it is suppose to only when the other marketing strategies have been put in place. That includes having a solid product being created first, followed by a beautiful designed graphic template, great testimonials from people who have trust in you and of course much better if they themselves are people who are well known and well regarded. Great copywrite is also an important element as without the right kind of copywrite, it is difficult to stir anyone to greater buying emotions.

As the feeling of “Perceived Value” increases, what you have to do next if you are a marketer is set out planning to use the Scarcity marketing technique.

These are a few way you can set about utilising the scarcity technique:

1. State to the potential buyer that the product is time sensitive, meaning that the product will no longer be sold after a certain amount of time, maybe after 48 hours or so.

2. State in the landing page the fact that there only limited amounts of your product available and after these have finished selling, no more will be produced. This is the limited edition technique often used in the selling of t-shirts and Nike shoes. It makes the product look very scarce and the pinching feeling is felt more when the product is perceived to be of a high value and is prized by the community.

3. Put a script that show how many people have bought your product thus far. This will tell your potential client that if there are others buying the product, they have nothing to lose in buying the product too. Even if they had made the mistake, they are others in the same boat and therefore the pain would be decreased tremendously. This is highly related to the herd mentality actually and most people do succumb to this and buy a particular product based on others having bought it too.

4. Put a script to show how much time is left for the potential customer to buy the product until the time runs up and the product will no longer be offered.

Remember, yo have to be true to yourself and your customers that if youhad promised to only sell 100 seats to a seminar or 100 products or whatever number you choose to sell, make sure you STICK to it.

If not, people are going to know that you have just called a bluff and that would affect your credibility factor. Its not going to be worth it in the long run.

Also, this strategy seems to be more effective if you are selling a coaching or mentoring program. Obviously, people know that there is only a small number of people that you can take in order to coach effectively.

I don’t know this guy but somehow the tagline Mass Control sounds so enticing that I went to take a look at the site and what its offering. I found that the blog offers some cool videos and information that I think could benefit anyone out there who is trying to make it in internet marketing. Here is his site, Mass Control.

Frank really make internet marketing sound so simple. I guess that for someone like him who have made his millions from internet marketing, it might be just plain simple. It has happened to me a few times and I think that it is something that I have to remind myself often so that I do not fall prey to what I call the “I need to have something Special” syndrome in doing business. Often, people do not start or take action in their business because they believe that they need to have a “competitive edge” over others and therefor need to come up with a product that is not only unique but resoundingly different and distinctive from what the competitors are offering.

Try not be overtly concerned with being totally unique and start offering our product to the market as soon as possible. The later you start offering your product to the market, the harder it gets as potential customers that could have been yours turn to your competitors as they have found them first. So, start offering your product to the market and allow your customers to evaluate your product and improve from there. Your customer’s feedback is valuable and can be used to further make improvements to the current offering.

Your sales page is also crucial to sales. A good sales page is not only able to convince your customers into purchasing your product, it can also offer other subtle but equally important messages such as your credibility and seriousness in your business. Try to be concise and state the value that your product offers to the client in a simple and easy to understand language.

The market is big enough for everyone. Take a bite of the market and take small bites at a time. Before you know it, you would have a sizable chunk of the pie as you continue to improve and excel in your business.

I came across an ebook that has been named “The Really Simple Method”. I went through the Rhodes Brothers John and Matt Rhodes site IMSimple and found it useful and full of good information on Internet Marketing. I think the ebook is a simple tool for them to market the products that they are currently promoting a club membership which offers Master Resale Rights of info products that one can resell. I am not promoting their product for them but I would just like to share the ebook that they have come up with. It argues against afffiliate marketing and conversely encourages you to come up with your own products and start selling them. Do not be surprised. People do pay for information that they themselves can get for free off the web. But what are the reasons people pay for these kind of information? Do they have too much money or do they just like enriching others? It seems that the answers to this questions can be found when you yourself purchase something off the web.

Although the information on the web is free, there is no one place where you can get all the answers except of course if someone bothers to actually compile these sites and little information and structure it in such a way that it makes it easier for anyone to understand. That in itself is value adding the product and if it makes someone else’s life easier, then the person who actually put all the work should be renumerated.

Sometimes, we are not just paying the person for compiling and saving us time. We are also paying them for entertaining us. Another twist that is done to the information that we often find free on the web is the fact that sometimes the tips are represented and hoo haa’ed as secrets. Secrets that only a few know they claim. Of course these claims is usually not supported but how many people actually question all these claims and something that sounds really secretive usually gains the attention of most people and if it is related to something that they have been searching for or is applicable to their current life, desire, problem, etc, it is with more likelihood that they will purchase the product.

So, for anyone out there who is reading this post, stop doing nothing and start producing information products that might just make you a lil bit richer. Its not impossible. It is truly possible and you just might need to wear that thinking cap right from now on and start entertaining people with your new found knowledge from this post.
